Container-Based Electronic Control Unit Virtualisation: A Paradigm Shift Towards a Centralised Automotive E/E Architecture
https://www.mdpi.com/2079-9292/13/21/4283
The past 40 years have seen automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) move from being purely mechanical controlled to being primarily digital controlled. While the safety of passengers and efficiency of vehicles has seen significant improvements, rising ECU numbers have resulted in increased vehicle weight, greater demands placed on power, more complex hardware and software, ad hoc methods for updating software, and subsequent increases in costs for both vehicle manufacturers and consumers. To address these issues, the research presented in this paper proposes that virtualisation technologies be applied within automotive electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture. The proposed approach is evaluated by comprehensively studying the CPU and memory resource requirements to support container-based ECU automotive functions. This comprehensive performance evaluation reveals that lightweight container virtualisation has the potential to welcome a paradigm shift in E/E architecture, promoting consolidation and enhancing the architecture by facilitating power, weight, and cost savings. Container-based virtualisation will also enable efficient and robust online dynamic software updates throughout a vehicle’s lifetime.

Cheap and Easy Hydrogen Line Radio Astronomy with an RTL-SDR, WiFi Parabolic Grid Dish, LNA and SDRSharp
https://www.rtl-sdr.com/cheap-and-easy-hydrogen-line-radio-astronomy-with-a-rtl-sdr-wifi-parabolic-grid-dish-lna-and-sdrsharp/
We've recently been testing methods to help budding amateur radio astronomers get into the hobby cheaply and easily. We have found that a low cost 2.4 GHz 100 cm x 60 cm parabolic WiFi grid antenna, combined with an RTL-SDR and LNA is sufficient to detect the hydrogen line peak and doppler shifts of the galactic plane. This means that you can create backyard hydrogen line radio telescope for less than US$200, with no complicated construction required. If you don't know what the hydrogen line is, we'll explain it here. Hydrogen atoms randomly emit photons at a wavelength of 21cm

All of this was prior to the latest versions of Security Onion which now run inside docker instances. I’ve not yet looked to see how this would be replicated there. But I’m leaving this up for historical purposes.
Another tool in the arsenal of Security Onion is OSSEC, a “scalable, multi-platform, open source Host-based Intrusion Detection System (HIDS).” OSSEC examines log and alert events and correlates them against pre-built (or custom) rules and sends alerts as configured. When installed on the Security Onion server, OSSEC alerts are logged in the sguil database and managed alongside alerts from the network IDS.

Ultra-Geek Linux Laptop: my own setup | Andrea Fortuna
https://andreafortuna.org//2017/07/14/ultra-geek-linux-laptop-my-own-setup/
Some days ago i’ve written a post about the “Ultra-Geek” Linux Workstation developed by Joe Nelson. Reading his post, I found many similarities with the current configuration of my laptop. So I decided to share the setup of my ‘Ultra-Geek linux Laptop’, with ‘design goals’ very similar to those of Joe Nelson: I need a really stable system with an immediate response, even on a hardware that is not too recent and powerful: so the system should use minimalist (but effective) tools. Cache data offline when possible: no reason to repeatedly retrieve them from internet. Avoid interpreted languages, web-based desktop apps, JavaScript garbage and background programs that can use a big amount of CPU. Automount USB devices on Linux using UDEV and Systemd | Andrea Fortuna
https://andreafortuna.org/2019/06/26/automount-usb-devices-on-linux-using-udev-and-systemd/
I've already talked about my GNU/Linux workstations: my setup is often minimal and without graphical facilities. However, some facilities can be replicated without graphical tools and with a very small footprint on the system. For example, on my setup i've realized a USB automount service without using any external tool/service, with only udev and systemd. The first step is a brief shell script, which will be called by systemd and takes care of creating and removing mount points, and mounting and unmounting the drives: Just create this file in /usr/local/bin/usb-mount.sh and set +x permissions. The script also sends a desktop notification to the user: (this part needs and additional configuration with username and userid, line 47) In order to allow systemd to call this script, we need to create a unit file. So create the file /etc/systemd/system/usb-mount@.service with the following content: [Unit] Description=Mount USB Drive on %i
